Rehomed solar panels go live!
After the decommissioning of one of our school rooftop solar schemes in 2021 as a result of the school closing, we found new homes for the spare solar panels at four community venues across the city.
We’re delighted to announce that the last of the new installations has gone live and the panels will continue to provide clean renewable energy for the local community, whilst reducing their energy bills.
Sail GP, which visited Plymouth last year, also provided funding to help the groups with the cost of installing the panels.
One of the organisations to benefit was Nudge Community Builders. Co-director Hannah Sloggett said;
“Getting these panels installed is not something we would have been able to afford to do without this support. Covering the energy costs in community buildings is increasingly challenging and this will be a really big help. It’s meant that we are talking about other climate actions we can take too.”
Plymstock Albion Oaks RFC received 65 panels. Club President John Dobson said; “The financial saving to our club is fantastic and with the continued increases in energy prices these savings are likely to improve. Plymstock Oaks would like to thank Plymouth Energy Community for this brilliant opportunity.”
