Winter is here - and nothing beats coming home to a warm, cosy house after a chilly day. Luckily, there are plenty of small, practical upgrades that can make your home more comfortable this season, without a major overhaul. Here are five ways to keep the cold at bay and enjoy a snug, welcoming space all through the winter.

1. Adjust and balance your radiators

Sometimes the smallest changes have the biggest impact. Make sure your radiators are bled and free of air pockets, and use TRVs to control the temperature in each room. This creates a more even warmth across your home and reduces cold spots that impact the comfort of your home.

2. Add thick, cosy curtains

Heavy, well-fitted curtains aren’t just visually appealing - they help trap heat inside and prevent draughts from cold windows. Closing curtains in the evenings can make bedrooms and living spaces feel snug and inviting.

3. Draught-proof your home

Cold air sneaking in through gaps around doors and windows can undo even the best heating. Draught-proofing is simple and effective:

  • Use door sweeps or brushes for external doors
  • Seal gaps around window frames with weather-stripping
  • Check letterboxes and keyholes for gaps that can be sealed

Even a few minor fixes can make rooms feel warmer immediately and reduce your heating bills.

4. Top up loft insulation

The roof is one of the biggest sources of heat loss in your home. If your loft insulation is thin or uneven, adding more can make a noticeable difference to your warmth and comfort. A well-insulated loft keeps heat inside during winter, helping every room feel cosier.

5. Use smart heating controls

Smart thermostats and radiator controls (TRVs) give you control over your heating from anywhere — perfect for busy households or if you’re away during the day.

  • Warm rooms before you arrive home
  • Avoid heating unused rooms
  • Reduce wasted energy without compromising comfort

A smarter system keeps you comfy and saves money too.

A warmer, cosier home this winter

Winter comfort isn’t just about cranking up the heating — it’s about smart, simple upgrades that make your home work with you. From draught-proofing to insulation, each small step adds up to a noticeably warmer, healthier and more enjoyable home.
