Warm Homes Discount

The 2025 to 2026 Warm Home Discount Scheme is now open.

The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a £150 payment towards your energy costs over the winter if you meet certain criteria detailed below. If you qualify, the discount will be applied between early October 2025 and 31st March 2026. It is usually credited against a home’s electricity account.

You may be eligible for the Warm Home Discount if your household meets either of the following criteria groups:

1) (Core Group 1) If you are/someone in your household is in receipt of the ‘Guarantee Credit’ element of Pension Credit. If you receive this and your name is on your energy bill, you should be eligible for the discount. Previously, this needed to be applied for but has now been automated. If the person who receives the Guarantee Credit element is not named on your energy bill, you will need to contact the supplier.

2) (Core Group 2) If you are/someone in your household is in receipt of certain means tested benefits or Tax Credits (see below), you may get the discount automatically. This group is also now awarded the scheme support automatically – there is no need to apply.

The qualifying means-tested benefits are:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income Support
  • The ‘Savings Credit’ part of Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit

Eligibility is based upon your circumstances on the “qualifying date” of Sunday the 24th August 2025. The person in receipt of the Pension Credit or means-tested benefit in the household must have been named on the energy account by this date to qualify.

Your supplier must also be taking part in the scheme for your household to be eligible. You can find a list of suppliers who take part here: https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme/energy-suppliers

You should receive a letter between October 2025 and January 2026 telling you about the discount if you are eligible. The discount will be applied to the electricity account by the 31st March 2026.

How will I be credited the £150 discount?

If you're on a non-smart prepayment meter, you'll usually be sent top-up vouchers to the total of £150, via text, email or postal letter. If you have a smart prepayment meter, the credit may be automatically applied to your electric balance. Customers on a credit account should see the £150 credit on one of their bills between Autumn 2025 and Spring 2026.

If you live in a Park Home, you still need to apply as the scheme will not automatically apply to you. Read more here - https://charisgrants.com/partners/park-homes/

The Government announced on 25th February 2025 that for the 2025 - 2026 Warm Home Discount scheme, the 2nd qualifying criteria for Core Group 2 regarding having higher energy costs was scrapped. This will mean 2.7 million more households qualify for this year’s scheme, including approximately an additional 900,000 families with children (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2025/06/warm-home-discount-expansion-confirmed/).
