Privacy Notice - CCTV
Using your personal information: CCTV at the PEC Hub
Last updated: July 2026
This notice explains how we use CCTV.
Who we are
PEC Trust is the Data Controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). This means we are responsible for how your personal data is collected and used.
Where CCTV is used
PEC trust uses CCTV at the premises:
Unit 1, Genesis, 235 Union Street, Plymouth, PL1 3HN.
Why we use CCTV
We operate a CCTV system to ensure the safety and security of individuals and property. The system is used for the following purposes:
- Protecting the health and safety of employees, service users, volunteers and visitors
- Preventing and detecting crime and anti-social behaviour
- Supporting the investigation of incidents within the property
- Assisting law enforcement with criminal investigations where required
- Supporting legal claims and insurance matters where necessary
What CCTV Records
The CCTV system records visual images of individuals, which may include:
- Appearance and behaviour
- Location and time of recording
Cameras are positioned inside the PEC advice hub with some incidental visibility of the immediate external area of the premises.
CCTV cameras capture images in real time within their field of view. You may be recorded if you:
- Enter or move within the premises
- Are present immediately outside the premises
The system operates continuously, and recording is automatic.
Signage is clearly displayed to inform individuals that CCTV is in operation.
We do not intentionally capture special category personal data (such as information about health, race, religion or biometric data) however, such data may be captured incidentally in CCTV footage. Where this occurs, it will be processed only where necessary and in accordance with data protection law. We do not use facial recognition, biometric identification or automated monitoring.
What gives us the right to use it?
Under UK Data Protection law, our main lawful basis is legitimate interests: keeping our premises, staff, visitors, volunteers, service users and property safe and secure. We have limited usage of CCTV and access to the footage to balance these interests against your privacy rights.
In some cases, we may also need to use or share footage because of a legal obligation, for example where we are required to provide information to law enforcement or a court.
Who can see our CCTV footage?
We may share CCTV footage with:
- Law enforcement agencies, where required for the prevention or detection of crime
- Insurance providers, in relation to incidents or claims
- Legal representatives, where necessary for legal proceedings
Internally:
- Live footage is visible on screens within the advice hub and main office for monitoring purposes
- Access to recorded footage is restricted to authorised staff only
- Footage may be accessed by relevant departments (e.g. HR) where there is a lawful reason to do so.
We do not routinely share CCTV footage with external organisations.
How long do we keep our CCTV footage?
CCTV footage is retained on a hard drive for 30 days, after which it is automatically deleted unless required for an ongoing investigation, legal matter, or insurance claim. If footage is kept for an investigation, legal matter or insurance claim, we will keep it only for as long as needed for that purpose and restrict access to it.
