We can help you to put heat back into your home this winter.

Qualifying households with a broken boiler can access the Emergency Central Heating Offer (ECHO) through PEC. This will restore a working boiler to your house, usually within 4-6 weeks, at no cost.

Am I eligible?

To qualify you must own your home, use the gas boiler as your main heating source, have a boiler that is broken and have no sources of funding available. You must also meet one of the following criteria:

Claiming a means tested benefits

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit
  • Universal credit
  • Housing Benefit

Or – Total annual household income less than £31,000

And

There must be someone in the household who is:

  • Aged 65 or over, or
  • Aged under 5, or
  • Suffering from significant health problems or has a disability that may be exacerbated by living in a cold home,
    • Cancer / Terminal illness
    • Cardiovascular condition
    • Respiratory condition
    • Disability (affecting mobility)
    • Mental Health Condition

Please note: This scheme usually opens on Ist September of each year and closes when the funds have been exhausted.

My boiler isn’t completely broken, can I still apply?

This scheme can only help if your boiler is broken enough that you are unable to heat your home. However, other schemes will soon be available if you need to replace an old boiler. These may take a little longer and there is often little notice of when the schemes will open or close. We will put you on a waiting list for a possible replacement boiler, and if it breaks in the meantime we will access emergency help.

What other help can the Energy Team provide?

We can help you to deal with other emergency situations like negotiating with an energy supplier.

Our friendly advisors can also help you to make sure your energy bills are cheaper and less worrying in the long term. We can help you to claim what you are entitled to (but may not know about), install energy saving items in your home and stay warm while using less energy.
