Is your Boiler ready for winter?
Get your boiler serviced ahead of winter to avoid issues later
If you have a gas boiler you should plan to get it serviced once a year
We recommend getting your boiler serviced in the Autumn or during the summer, so that you know it is in good condition before winter – it will be working hard over the winter, so keeping your boiler well-maintained helps you stay safe, save money, and avoid being left in the cold.
What is an annual boiler service?
You should get your boiler serviced every year. A qualified Gas Safe Registered engineer will:
- Inspect boiler controls, pipework, flues and safety devices.
- Check for leaks, corrosion, and signs of wear.
- Test combustion, pressure and ventilation.
- Clean where needed and issue a service report.
This makes sure your boiler is working safely and efficiently.
You can search for local qualified engineers on the Gas Safety Register website
Why service your boiler every year
Whilst servicing can seem costly, it can help you avoid larger costs down the line. It should:
- Reduce the likelihood of breakdowns as colder months arrive.
- Help your heating system run efficiently, lowering your energy bills.
- Keep warranty valid – some only stay valid if services are carried out annually.
- Keep you safe by helping prevent things like carbon monoxide leaks.
If you are renting:
If you are privately renting then your Landlord needs to get a Gas Safety Check done every year. As a tenant you should get a copy of the certificate. However a Gas Safety Check is not the same as a boiler service. Some energy suppliers will offer a free Gas Safety Check to people on the Priority Services Register.
